At ALT Recording Studios Brighton we appreciate the difficulty of recording the human voice well. Colouration, be it from room acoustics, excessive compression, bad microphone techniques etc can ruin a recording. We hear the human voice everyday and record it for a wide variety of applications - we instantly know when it sounds wrong.
As with any recording it is always best to start at the source. In this case the voice over artist. Sitting comfortably, having good posture can work wonders. We always aim to optimise performance by helping with volume levels, reducing interferences such as excessive sibilance and microphone popping, reduce excessive bass due to microphone proximity and so on.
In our Brighton studio we use Auralex acoustic tiles to acheive good acoustics and create a pleasant reverberation ambiance. We offer a wide range of microphones, allowing voice over artists to chose their preference or to take our advice on selecting a microphone suited to the project. We find Rode, Neumann and Blue microphones offer a clean yet warm quality. Voice channels, pre-amps and outboard are also available.
